Jonna Mogab, LCSW
Jonna Mogab is a seasoned, highly trained, spiritually conscious therapist. She is certified in EMDR for the treatment of trauma and painful, highly charged memories, experiences, and relationships. In practice for over 20 years, her clinical work is anchored in Self-Psychology, oriented toward strengthening and organizing the core ‘self,’ along with cognitive and behavioral interventions when appropriate. Jonna is very familiar with and works in collaboration with Twelve Step recovery programs.
My general theoretical orientation is Self-Psychology, so I am always looking at the functioning of the individual in their matrix of support and seeing to strengthen the cohesiveness of the Self. I also utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in treating trauma and in enhancing internal resources.
EMDR is a holistic modality that enhances the client’s ability to discharge the physiological impact of the trauma, desensitizes the memory at the level of brain, and shifts the spiritual and energetic impact through reprocessing of negative beliefs that attend the trauma.
I began working with survivors of sexual violence as a psychotherapist working in an outpatient substance abuse treatment program in the mid 1980’s. I attended numerous workshops and training programs beginning in the 1980’s and in the early 1990’s I was hired to create and provided clinical direction for an inpatient program for treatment of incest and sexual trauma for several years at the Rader Institute. I have continued to provide direct clinical services to survivors in my private practice setting.
My Interest in Working with Survivors
I feel it is an honor to be entrusted with the vulnerability inherent in a survivor opening up for help and I know that I can hold the space for healing and transformation of the trauma into strength.
Modifications for Survivors
I attempt to provide whatever a client needs for safety and to feel in control of the session. This might include ‘blind to therapist’ protocols in which the client is able to reprocess without initially telling me what images or thoughts they are having. I have adapted to clients who felt the need to hide their faces while telling the story or whatever (within ethical practices) a client needs to feel safe.
I have offered sliding-scale treatments at times. Please inquire to whether or not I have slots open right now for additional sliding-scale clients.
